How the CollectR™ Mechanic Works
The engine behind five of the six games. Pirots X is the odd one out — see the Pirots X page for the cluster-pays version instead.
Four colored birds — red, purple, green and blue — land on the grid at the start of a round. Each one only moves onto gems that match its own color, and it keeps walking and eating as long as there's a same-color gem next to it. Every symbol a bird collects fills a meter above the grid; once that meter is full, the game drops in feature symbols — wilds, coins, upgrades, transforms, whatever that particular title uses. When the birds run out of moves, the board refills and the round continues.
The grid itself grows during play. Bombs, dynamite or corner triggers (the exact mechanism changes per game) blow open extra rows and columns, so a round that starts on a 6×6 board can end up running on 8×8 by the time the birds are done. Land three bonus symbols and you're into Free Drops, where the grid size, the upgrade levels and the meter progress all carry over instead of resetting — which is where most of the series' bigger wins actually come from.
